This helped!!! thank you very much!! I actually made a one source macro studio for some bugs with some cardboard Its amazing how you dont need expensive lights to get better!
I have an assertion that seems to stir up all kinds of irrational emotions... GIMP is not inferior to PS in function. Yeah I know.. "what?!?" In PS, the algorithms are well translated into a pretty intuitive interface with a large community of users around it. GIMP has most of the same functionality, its just that its UI is WAY less intuitive, and there are just not alot of people using it in a serious way. I think because there are not alot of people using it for serious work, the thinking that it CANT be used for serious work is prevalent. What I did was watch 4 3-day post processing workshops on creative live, took notes, compiled the functions that were commonly used by all 4 photographers, then hunted down the corresponding functions in RawTherapee and GIMP. It took some time, but it was worth it.
Adobe LR retails for about as much, but sadly all the digital noise removal in the world won't make light out of no light, so unless your subject is a mannequin (I'm glad Devon is not) you're SOL. UNTIL NOW. Well done Aaron.
